Furnace Tune-Up in Brunswick and Horry Counties

Sandpiper Heating & Air Conditioning performs furnace tune-ups for homes across Brunswick County, North Carolina and Horry County, South Carolina, with certified technicians and a checklist matched to the heating system in your home: electric heat, heat pumps, gas, or propane. The tune-up is an annual service that cleans the equipment, tests its safety controls, and checks that it is ready for winter. We have served this coast since 2002.

Mild coastal winters leave heating equipment idle in salt air for a long stretch until a cold snap puts it to work. A fall visit checks it before then.

What Our Heating Tune-Up Covers, by Fuel

Coastal heating splits by fuel type, and our checklist follows the split. For electric systems and heat pumps:

  • Backup heating elements are tested and the temperature rise is checked, the two measures of your cold-snap capacity.

  • Safety and operating controls are tested and adjusted, and the blower motor and belt are checked.

  • On heat pumps, refrigerant superheat is measured to confirm accurate pressures.

  • Start and run capacitors and relays are inspected for bulges, rust, and leaks, the contactors are cleaned, and every connection is tightened.

  • Our technician meters voltage and amperage in all motors, tests for worn bearings, and lubricates moving parts.

  • The condensate drain is flushed, which heat pumps use through winter defrost, and filters are evaluated.

For homes heating with gas or propane, the combustion checklist takes over: we perform a full combustion analysis, clean the burners and inspect the heat exchanger, clean and adjust the pilot or ignition system, verify combustion air, test the gas valve, check for gas leaks, inspect the flue pipe and draft diverter, adjust the burner for maximum efficiency, and check the temperature rise and motor amperage draw.

Why the Checklist Follows the Fuel

Electric heat depends on its terminals, relays, and heating elements, and salt air corrodes electrical connections. Testing the backup elements and their connections in the fall is the specific countermeasure. Gas and propane homes carry the combustion responsibilities instead: complete burning, an intact heat exchanger, and clear venting, and the full combustion analysis measures all three.

Either fuel, the goal is a system checked in the fall instead of questioned in winter. Keeping to the seasonal schedule also supports your manufacturer's warranty.

How the Visit Goes

Your technician reviews last winter with you, runs the checklist for your fuel, and cycles the system under load, including the backup elements on heat pumps and the combustion analysis on gas and propane equipment. You finish with a plain summary: what was tested, what the measurements showed, and what if anything deserves attention before the cold arrives.

Pair It with Spring Under the Energy Savings Agreement

The Energy Savings Agreement pairs this fall heating visit with a spring cooling visit in one annual plan, with priority scheduling, discounted diagnostic fees, and discounts on parts and services for members.
